Where Do We Go From Here?
Where is the Democratic Party going from the epic loss in 2016? Well that depends on who you ask.
Bernie Sanders and his most rabid supporters like Susan Sarandon tell Democrats that we need to bow down to white working class voters and only depend on small donor contributions. According to them and the left wing purists, if we take money from rich progressive celebrities and progressive billionaires like Bill and Melinda Gates then we're no better than the Republicans.
Well, as a 57 year old African American woman from Louisiana (one of the reddest states) living in Massachusetts (one of the bluest states) I can look at this question from both sides. Coming from a family of life long Democrats, I'm personally offended by Bernie Sanders and other independents telling us that all of our primaries need to be open so they can take over our party. This is a non-starter for me. I say to them and all independents, pick a party or start your own. Bernie said he ran as a Democrat because he knew the resources and the attention wouldn't be there for a third party candidate. We let him run as a Democrat and and I still believe he damaged Hillary Clinton by creating a savage group of supporters that wouldn't stand down and support the party when the primaries were done.
For those who say that the primaries were rigged I challenge you to look at the pitiful resources that the Bernie Sanders campaign expended in the southern states. Bernie and his supporters got cocky after his big victory in New Hampshire. I was volunteering on the Clinton campaign in New Hampshire and I told all of the white volunteers who were working with me to come in off the ledge because Hillary was going to clean Bernie's clock in South Carolina and the rest of the south. I told them that Bernie had no name recognition in the southern states and that he had made a fatal mistake in letting Cornell West be his mouthpiece. Needless to say I was 100% right. Bernie lost in epic style in South Carolina and the rest of the south. He and his people said it didn't matter because the democrats wouldn't win in the south in the general election. These dopes actually believe that the election was rigged because Hillary won the most delegates (even without the super delegates). Bernie and his campaign made the same mistake that Hillary made in 2008. They lost track of the fact that delegates matter. So hey you brats, Bernie lost and it was not rigged. The African American voters that you dissed by not trying to win us over actually mattered.
So what is Bernie doing now that the Russians hacked the DNC and Podesta as well as target their silly asses with disinformation that they were only to glad to embrace? Bernie is taking that assisted loss (Trump won the swings states by only 80k votes and those states were flooded with disinformation) by still throwing shade on Hillary and bashing the Democrats for what he perceives they did wrong. In other words he wants to chase after White Working Class voters who I think the party needs to let learn the hard way that the Republicans mean them no good.
It's time for Democrats to stop squabbling and come together and continue to resist Trump and the Republicans trying to dismantle the 20th century. It's time for Democrats to realize that we have to vote in EVERY election and just show up for Presidential elections.
Where We Go From Here is to stay engaged and vote in our local and state elections because the Republicans have taken over our states. We MUST turn out and vote in the midterms in 2018 because Republicans win when Democrats sit home and let them win because of low turn out. I'm challenging real Democrats show America that demographics favor our party and vote, vote, vote!
Wake Up America!
