Yes there is a War on Women's Health

For everyone not paying attention, North Dakota women are under seige. I've always said that the stupid gene resides on the Y chromosome and I think what is going on in North Dakota is the proof. For a Red State that is always talking about constitutional rights and the damned 2nd amendment, the fact that they would pass a bill through the legislature that is so clearly unconstitutional just takes my breath away. The GOP in the Congress has passed the Ryan budget once again which guts programs that would help low income women care for the babies that North Dakota will be forcing women to give birth to.  However in my opinion the GOP is just pro-birth not pro-life. On the MHP show today there was a discussion of whether or not this assualt on Women's Health Rights is really a smoke screen for holding women back and keeping us out of the work force.  If we are having  more babies, we can't compete as easily against men for scarce jobs. Yet aga...

To Hell with the Grand Bargain

It is clear that the Republicans have dug in their heels and have intention of breaking the Washington Gridlock . Therefore we Progressives have got to support President Obama and the Democrats in Congress in standing up to the bullies on the other side of the aisle.  I know I keep talking about the 2012 election in my posts but it's important that we who voted to re-elect President Obama keep making noise everywhere to let the Republicans know that they can't just ignore that election and continue to shove the policies that we voted against down our throats. I'm not saying that there is no room to reform Social Security and Medicare but if Republicans say all revenue is off the table then why would Progressives let them balance the budget on the backs of the poor and the elderly while the rich get richer. If that is how the GOP wants to roll then let them roll on home for good after the 2014 elections.  We have to get ready and power up our organizations ...

Paul Ryan Budget: Did He Forget About the Election

Is it just me or did Paul Ryan forget that he and Mitt lost the 2012 election.  This version of the Ryan House budget is just more of the same that we the people didn't vote for in November.  Can the GOP really be serious by letting Ryan submit a budget where 50% of the cuts affect programs for the poor and the elderly.  Block Granting Medicaid to the states just effectively cripples the program which is the backbone of Obamacare. Oh did I forget to mention that the repeal of Obamacare is the center piece of the Ryan Budget.  Even Chris Wallace told him that's not going to happen.  Funding Medicaid by Block Grant when the GOP is already starving the states and cities is not what we voted for. Also, as a 53 yr old woman I absolutely do not want a voucher for Medicare.  For Ryan to not get it that someone my age did not do financial planning with a destroyed Medicare in mind just shows that the GOP is the party of the rich. We progressives have got...

Why the Jobs Numbers Should be Better

As happy as I am to see the jobs numbers today, let's not forget that the Obama administration accomplished this jobs growth in spite of the GOP not because of them.  The GOP led by Mitch Connell spent Obama's 1st term trying to make him a one term president.  Clearly that plan was a failure.  President Obama's American Jobs act which was part of his deficit reduction plan would have added hundreds of thousands of jobs and increased teachers, fire fighters and policemen. But Nooo, the GOP wouldn't let this pass because they couldn't give the President any victories in an election year. I know that I'm an outspoken liberal but those of you who are not part of the 1% need to rethink your support of the GOP as we start to prepare for the midterm elections. If you are working but are killing yourself at work so your company can have record profits and not give you a raise vote Democrat in 2014.  If you believe it's wrong for large companies like GE to pay n...

Commemoration of Bloody Sunday and the Voting Rights Act

Today is the 48th anniversary of Bloody Sunday and it is mind boggling that we are waiting for a decision from the Supreme Court on the whether or not Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) is relevant to the country today.  As Vice President Biden said today at the MLK and Coretta Scott Kin Unity Breakfast things have changed but we saw in the 2012 that there are still voter suppression tactics that the government had to fight using Section 5. Vice President Biden made a heart felt case for the progress that the country has made but that we have that we have to continue the fight. The GOP has made it clear to the country that they realize they have lost the demographic so they are going to shrink the electoral in order to steal elections. The commemoration of Bloody Sunday this year in particular reminds us of the truth of Vice President Biden's today and Rep. John Lewis words on Wednesday.  We have more work to do and we are NOT going back...
