Open Our Dam Government: What is Wrong with the GOP!

Enough already. The tea party republicans thought POTUS was going to let them take take down the ACA. What!?  Are they on crack?!  Even though the administration has not done a good job selling the benefits, those of us with a brain know that the major portions of the ACA are going to benefit millions of Americans.  It is time for Americans as a whole to rise up and send the Republicans in Congress home for good. President Obama needs to have a lock on both houses for the last 2 years of his term in order to govern the country and pass some progressive legislation to benefit the country. It's time to protect Medicare and social security and put a stake in the heart of trickle down economics.  The economic divide between the top and the bottom of our society is no longer sustainable. We must rebuild our infrastructure and put our citizens back to work. We must also feed our people and educate our children and we can't accomplish these things by continuing to cut taxes...

Time to Take the March Back Home

We've Marched on Washington and commemorated the 50th anniversary of the original march. However, it's time to put the GOP governors and legislators on     notice that like John Lewis said "We're going to make some noise." If North Carolina, Texas and Florida think that we're going to roll over and let them take us back to the 50's they better think again. We are going to beat them at their own game. We are going to protest and register and turn their asses out of office in 2014. We will also fight James Esquire, Jr. in the courts with what remains of the VRA.  Wake up America. Voting Rights are sacred and they below to us all. Not just white republicans who have lost the demographic so they want to win elections by foul means.

Time for Progressives to Take the Floor

I have had enough of seeing these damn white Rebublicans taking over these congressional town hall meetings. As an African American Progressive I have had it with seeing these people say just stupid and outrageous things at these meetings unchallenged.   I live in a blue state and these people don't dare show up to a town hall meeting in my district and say this stuff. They would be challenged immediately.  It's time for progressives, especially African Americans to show up at these meetings and let these racists know that America is our country too and they can't take it back because a Black man is sitting in the White House. Our ancestors built more of this country than theirs ever did and we have had enough of their whining.  Red State Progressives take the floor!

Laying the Foundation

The GOP is just digging themselves a deeper and deeper political hole.  These fools have forgotten that President Obama was re-elected with a large majority and we said NO to the GOP's policies. Because the GOP held the house in 2012 they feel it's ok that they are ignoring the will of the people. The President is starting to go on the road to remind the country what he stands for and what we voted for. As Eugene Robinson from the Washington Post said, the President is a lawyer and he is laying the foundation for his case. I agree with Eugene 100%.  The President is leading us toward the 2014 midterm elections as he should be. It is time for all of us who voted for the President in 2012 to vote for him once more in 2014.  Let's give him the House and the Senate he needs to "take back our county."  It's time to put Americans back to work by passing the American Jobs Bill, stop voting to repeal Obamacare and stop trying to pass more tax cuts for the rich. It...

The Race Conversation

Most if not all of us who are African Americans are exhausted with the conversation about race that just keeps recycling and going nowhere.  To hear the right wing fringe go after President Obama when he shared his own experiences about being racially profiled let me know that many white people just don't want to get it about how it feels to be black in America. I for one am no longer letting insensitive and stupid comments go unchallenged. It is heavy lifting but I believe it is the only way to make white Americas aware of their biases and to effect change. I feel that some but not all of this bad behavior will stop if white people are not allowed to feel comfortable in their bad behavior. I for one am going to take on the challenge.

I've Had Enough!

George Zimmerman being acquitted of killing Trayvon Martin not only saddened me but it also enraged me. To hear a large portion of White America question whether or not Trayvon was suspicious just pushes me right over the edge. Also watching Anderson Cooper's interview with the Juror pushed my blood pressure through the roof. She so clearly identified with George Zimmerman. She even said she felt sorry for both Geoege and Trayvon. She is so delusional that she compares them in the same sentence like she forgot that Trayvon is DEAD! I'm so tired of trying to make White American feel comfortable with me because they see me as different. Well I'm done with that. As far as I'm concerned they need to make an effort to see others as equals. Whites will be in the minority within 20 yrs or less so they need to stop walking around acting like non whites need to make them feel comfortable with us.  It's time for us to take control in the voting booth and elect officials who w...

This Case Was About Race

George Zimmerman was found not guilty for killing Trayvon Martin and the defense and the prosecutors both say it was not a race case. They must all be living in a Florida fantasy  land. Of course this case was about race.  George Zimmerman racially profiled Trayvon Martin and then disobeyed the police by following him. When Trayvon defended himself against a strange man, George shot and killed him. It breaks my heart to see that so many white Americans actually believe that George did nothing wrong even though he brought a gun to a fist fight. The verdict in this case makes me know that African Americans have to protect our own kids because there seems to be no one to do it but us.  We have to get out the vote in 2014 and change the composition of our state legislatures in order to change the laws that leave us vulnerable to thugs like George Zimmerman. Blacks and Latinos have the numbers, we have to get out and VOTE their asses out. Attorney West said that the fact that ...

Shameful Day for the GOP

Yesterday's passing of the Farm Bill without the provision for the Nutrition Program marks the most shameful and hypocritical day of the GOP. There you have congressional members receiving millions in farm subsidies while making a conscious decision to let millions of Americans go hungry.  I stand with the Democrats in the house, like Rep. Shiela Jackson Lee who spoke so passionately on the house floor. I, like her, ask what is wrong with these people. Are they so hateful and hard hearted that they are ok with letting people go hungry while they give us all the middle finger as they blantantly take their subsidies.   I ask all people not just liberals like me but poor and working class GOP voters in red states to stand up and say ENOUGH! Stop voting hatred for Obama and vote for your own self interests. Stop letting yourself be used by the Koch Bros., Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and others. Look around you and see what is happening to rank and file Americans. For anyone to say t...

Time to Energize for 2014

Looking at what is going on in Texas, Ohio and North Carolina just as a first cut lets me know that the 2014 midterm elections are urgent to the country. Women and people of color in particular need to get out and vote.  Support of candidates who are challenging the GOP extremism is an absolute must. If progressives sit home and let old whites over take them at the polls we will pay for it for decades.  Women's healthcare rights are teetering and young women need to get engaged in the fight. The states are where we need to pay attention because local politics is where all of these oppressive war on women laws are coming from. Voting Rights are also under attack because as a higher percentage of Black and Brown people are voting, older whites males are feeling threatened and are passing laws at the state level to suppress that vote.  The time is NOW to start mobilizing in the gerrymandered red districts that came out of the 2010 midterms. We must get voters in those distri...

GOP is a Fraud

The GOP is the biggest fraud. In 2010 they said they were all about jobs, jobs, jobs. However, as soon as they swept into power at the state level, GOP governors and legislatures started their war on women.   We women have to stand together and vote our interests and stop listening to the GOP bullshit. Time to call foul and fraud on the GOP and vote their asses out in 2014.

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs

I'm really tired of the GOP thinking that we are all just asleep at the switch.  Where is their jobs bill?!  The stock market keeps going up, up, and up but the companies are not spending any of that extra cash to put Americans back to work.  Wall Street and the rich are making big money but main street is still struggling. Money is as cheap as it's ever going to be so why doesn't congress help the President and the middle class by passing a jobs bill to fix our infrastructure.  People in Red States, it time to stand up and cut the crap.  Kick your Reps and Senators in the ass and let them know that you want jobs now.

The Dream IS Now

I'm an American Citizen but I am in support of comprehensive immigration reform, starting with the Dream Act.  So after watching the documentary The Dream is Now on MSNBC, I was moved to post this my Blog.  As a country we are throwing away tremendous talent by continuing with our stupid antiquated laws. We must stand together with those who are undocumented and stand against the bigotry of the far right of Republican Party which is blocking immigration reform.  We can't let some of our best and brightest not be able to acheive their dreams and become full contributing members of our country.  We cannot continue to let families be separated by unnecessary deportations. Enough is Enough. Morally we must pressure our leaders to act. Immigration Reform will strengthen not weaken out country.  We will bring more workers on to the tax payer roles and stop employers from taking advantage of these workers due to their status. White Ame...

The Vote on Gun Safety is Political

All of us in the 91% support universal background checks have to contact our representation in congress and tell them to stop playing games and vote.  As a Mother my heart just breaks when I hear the parents and families of those killed at Sandy Hook talk about what they are going through. Enough is Enough.  It is time for Congress to stop kowtowing to Wayne LaPierre at the NRA and listen to their constituents.  Wayne LaPierre is not listening to his NRA members who are overwhelmingly for background checks.  Wayne is listening to the people who are really paying his salary and that is the gun manufacturers who are making boatloads of money.  To say that background checks won't stop every gun crime so we should do nothing is a cop out.  That's like saying the police can't stop every robbery so just get rid of the police.  As the president just said in his speech moments ago in Connecticut, it is time for us to make our voices heard and stand up...

Yes there is a War on Women's Health

For everyone not paying attention, North Dakota women are under seige. I've always said that the stupid gene resides on the Y chromosome and I think what is going on in North Dakota is the proof. For a Red State that is always talking about constitutional rights and the damned 2nd amendment, the fact that they would pass a bill through the legislature that is so clearly unconstitutional just takes my breath away. The GOP in the Congress has passed the Ryan budget once again which guts programs that would help low income women care for the babies that North Dakota will be forcing women to give birth to.  However in my opinion the GOP is just pro-birth not pro-life. On the MHP show today there was a discussion of whether or not this assualt on Women's Health Rights is really a smoke screen for holding women back and keeping us out of the work force.  If we are having  more babies, we can't compete as easily against men for scarce jobs. Yet aga...

To Hell with the Grand Bargain

It is clear that the Republicans have dug in their heels and have intention of breaking the Washington Gridlock . Therefore we Progressives have got to support President Obama and the Democrats in Congress in standing up to the bullies on the other side of the aisle.  I know I keep talking about the 2012 election in my posts but it's important that we who voted to re-elect President Obama keep making noise everywhere to let the Republicans know that they can't just ignore that election and continue to shove the policies that we voted against down our throats. I'm not saying that there is no room to reform Social Security and Medicare but if Republicans say all revenue is off the table then why would Progressives let them balance the budget on the backs of the poor and the elderly while the rich get richer. If that is how the GOP wants to roll then let them roll on home for good after the 2014 elections.  We have to get ready and power up our organizations ...

Paul Ryan Budget: Did He Forget About the Election

Is it just me or did Paul Ryan forget that he and Mitt lost the 2012 election.  This version of the Ryan House budget is just more of the same that we the people didn't vote for in November.  Can the GOP really be serious by letting Ryan submit a budget where 50% of the cuts affect programs for the poor and the elderly.  Block Granting Medicaid to the states just effectively cripples the program which is the backbone of Obamacare. Oh did I forget to mention that the repeal of Obamacare is the center piece of the Ryan Budget.  Even Chris Wallace told him that's not going to happen.  Funding Medicaid by Block Grant when the GOP is already starving the states and cities is not what we voted for. Also, as a 53 yr old woman I absolutely do not want a voucher for Medicare.  For Ryan to not get it that someone my age did not do financial planning with a destroyed Medicare in mind just shows that the GOP is the party of the rich. We progressives have got...

Why the Jobs Numbers Should be Better

As happy as I am to see the jobs numbers today, let's not forget that the Obama administration accomplished this jobs growth in spite of the GOP not because of them.  The GOP led by Mitch Connell spent Obama's 1st term trying to make him a one term president.  Clearly that plan was a failure.  President Obama's American Jobs act which was part of his deficit reduction plan would have added hundreds of thousands of jobs and increased teachers, fire fighters and policemen. But Nooo, the GOP wouldn't let this pass because they couldn't give the President any victories in an election year. I know that I'm an outspoken liberal but those of you who are not part of the 1% need to rethink your support of the GOP as we start to prepare for the midterm elections. If you are working but are killing yourself at work so your company can have record profits and not give you a raise vote Democrat in 2014.  If you believe it's wrong for large companies like GE to pay n...

Commemoration of Bloody Sunday and the Voting Rights Act

Today is the 48th anniversary of Bloody Sunday and it is mind boggling that we are waiting for a decision from the Supreme Court on the whether or not Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) is relevant to the country today.  As Vice President Biden said today at the MLK and Coretta Scott Kin Unity Breakfast things have changed but we saw in the 2012 that there are still voter suppression tactics that the government had to fight using Section 5. Vice President Biden made a heart felt case for the progress that the country has made but that we have that we have to continue the fight. The GOP has made it clear to the country that they realize they have lost the demographic so they are going to shrink the electoral in order to steal elections. The commemoration of Bloody Sunday this year in particular reminds us of the truth of Vice President Biden's today and Rep. John Lewis words on Wednesday.  We have more work to do and we are NOT going back...

Justice Scalia, Voting is NOT an Entitlement

For all of you who were in a cave yesterday, Justice Scalia threw down the gauntlet against the major pillar of the Voting Rights Act (VRA). Justice Scalia stated that the Congress didn't really want to renew the VRA in 2006 even though the Senate voted unanimously and the house was almost the same. Justice Scalia has decided that the Congress was bullied into keeping this most important legislation and that Congress can not be trusted. Justice Scalia with his statement has shown the country that he is either living in a bubble or has not been paying attention to the attempts to suppress the minority vote in not only the states and jurisdictions that are covered by Section 5 of the VRA, but also in new areas of the country that are now swing states in Federal elections. An even worse option is that he actually supports the GOP's attempts to steal elections at all levels of government. For those civil rights leaders that fought and di...
Blame Game President Obama is in Newport News today and the Republicans are going nuts.  He is winning the Blame Game because is an expert in the use of the bully pulpit. It looks like we are going to go over the cliff into the Sequester and many of us are going to get cut up on the way down. Those of you in Red States who have not been paying attention to what your Congressional Representation have been doing need to Wake Up.  You need to reach out and slap these fools upside the back of the head and let them know you need your government to function properly and that obstruction is not function. I know that blaming the President for not leading is the ongoing smoke screen but don't fall for the okdedoke.  Call or email your Rep and your Senator and tell them to stop playing the blame game and cut a deal with the President. Time is running out.

The GOP and the Sequester

America is hurtling towards catastrophic budget cuts in a little more than a week. John Boehner and the GOP are thumping their chests yet again.  It is so tiring to hear republicans drone on again about tax cuts. We had a an election and we the people decided that we didn't want what the Republicans are selling. It is time for we the people to contact our congress people and let them know to knock it off. We had a choice to continue to cut taxes for the rich, voucherize Medicare and repeal Obamacare and we said not just No but Hell No. It is time for the GOP to hear us and realize the 2012 election had major consequences. Do the will of the people. Raise the dam Capital Gains taxes and stop giving Corporate Welfare to big oil companies and close the offshore account loopholes. We are tired of the games Congress. Do what we the people told you to do. Stop protecting the Rich and protect the middle class.
